About Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonics)

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy, or Colonics as it's commonly called, is a gentle, safe and effective treatment using filtered water, to hydrate the body and cleanse the colon of any impacted waste and toxins.

The colon is around 1½–2 metres long, and we have the capacity to hold up to 7 kg of waste, as well as a plethora of toxins. Through the removal of accumulated waste and toxins, Colonics can help to promote overall digestive health while supporting the body's natural detoxification processes.

What happens during a colonic treatment?

During a colonic treatment, a speculum is inserted into the rectum. A small tube attached to the speculum allows filtered water into the colon, while a larger tube carries water and waste out. The tubes are connected to the colon hydrotherapy device, so there is no smell or mess.

A viewing screen on the device allows you to see what is being released, which your therapist will discuss with you. It can be fascinating, and for someone who experiences constipation, seeing what is coming out can feel reassuring.

There are two types of colon hydrotherapy systems: open and closed. Joanne is trained and experienced in using the closed system and stays with her clients throughout the treatment.

During the treatment you will receive an abdominal massage to help things move along, and education on gut and bowel health.
